General Principle

I've seen "general principle" being used a lot on the LSAT and I don't completely understand what qualifies as a general principle. Does any conclusion qualify as a general principle? Also, can a general principle be a statement of fact (ie all birds have wings) or does it have to be some ...

Re: Q8 - This boulder is volcanic

Hi, I have a question about answer choice D. I see how it could be argued that this answer weakens the assumption, but the answer choice says that there ARE no geological sources. But isn't it also possible that there once were geological sources that are no longer intact? I get that A is incorrect ...

Re: Q2

Hi, im still unsure about E. For E, what about the part of the passage (ln 36-40) that says that MOST critics and readers' expectations...rendered them unable to appreciate Hurston's delineation...and the novel went quietly out of print? This seems to suggest that they did not respond positively, if...

Re: Q14 - Kim: In northern Europe during

Hello,
This one is confusing to me, because aren't we not supposed to question premises of arguments? Why is it acceptable to do so in this case?

Re: Q4 - For generations, magnificent racehorses

Can someone clarify how D is irrelevant? To me it seems like gambling does relate to bad character, because the stimulus says that "Gambling is wrong, and children raised in an atmosphere where the goal is to get something for nothing will not develop good character". Doesn't this imply th...

Re: Q2 - Physiological research has uncovered

Hi,
This question was kind of tricky to me not because of the "causal" mentioned in the answer choice, but the "appears"...couldn't it be the case that the link could be causal without seeming to be causal? Isn't what the link "appears to be" irrelevant to the argument?

Re: Q26 - Marion knows that the bridge

So for future reference, when an answer choice states "evidence that someone WILL do X", can that be interpreted as saying "evidence that SUPPORTS the conclusion that someone will do X?" This answer choice threw me off because the premise, "she hates taking the train" s...

Q10 - The idealized world portrayed...

Hi, I understand why this answer choice is better than the others, but is it really sufficient? I get the leap of logic here (there must be a difference between the two), but is this difference itself sufficient for the conclusion to be true? Isnt there also the leap in the idea of classification? T...

Re: Q19 - Doctor: Medical researchers recently examined

Hi, I just wanted to check up on my reasoning here... Isn't (A) also incorrect because it contradicts the stimulus? (A) says that the factor (bulging disks) may nonetheless be sufficient for the effect (serious back pain). But doesn't the stimulus basically say that some people who have bulging disk...

Re: Q15 - A standard problem for computer

Hi, I chose the right answer (D), but I'm still a little unsure of it. The conclusion is that this new system will provide a way of giving access to those people who are entitled to access and no one else. But the conclusion doesn't say that it will ALWAYS provide access to those who are entitled ri...

Re: Q25

Hi, I'm a little confused with this explanation. You mentioned that (B) is incorrect because a high degree of conformity is not necessarily expected in general, but the answer choice merely states that it is 'often expected'. Considering that 'often' is an ambiguous term, couldn't (B) still be corre...

How does quincy saying that the association between lights and earthquakes are not anything more than a coincidence not an alternate explanation? is this answer choice incorrect because it is not how the premise relates to the conclusion -and is merely the conclusion itslef?

Re: Q4 - Walter: For the economically privileged

I'm having trouble with eliminating (A), and choosing (D) instead. I don't see how Larissa is agreeing wit Walter's conclusion. Isn't Walter's conclusion that "for the economically privileged in a society to tolerate an injustice perpetrated against one of society's disadvantaged is not just mo...

Assumption?

Hi, I understand the cues within the question stem that indicate a necessary vs sufficient assumption question, but I have also encountered questions that do not use these indicators at all. For instance, on PT 16 sec 3 #14, the question stem says "the argument assumes that..." Are these q...

Re: Q11 - It is now a common complaint

Hi, Im still confused as to why (C) is correct, though I think I understand why (D) is incorrect. Isn't the statement in question an example of a cultural change that did not necessarily have a detrimental effect on intellectual skills , which was in turn used to support the claim that a it does not...

Re: Q11 - Carl: Researchers who preform operations

Hi, I have a question about answer choice (A). When (A) refers to "claims", does this apply to both implicit (assumptions) and explicit claims? Or only explicit? I don't remember the particular question, but I remember for one method of reasoning question I encountered, an answer choice wa...

Re: Q11 - Raising the tax rate on essential

Re: Q21 - Thirty years ago, the percentage

I'm still a little confused on this... The stimulus seems to also make the flawed assumption that because things were a certain way for single persons, that it would also be the same for people in general. Based off the evidence that single persons spent twice the percentage of income thirty years a...

Re: Q4 - Maria: Thomas Edison was one

Hi, I wanted to clear some things up about (E) if possible. Is it really the case that (E) does not occur? Although Frank does question Maria's conclusion, the conclusion is not about Edison right? And the answer choice states that he fails to criticize/question any statements about Edison. None of ...
