Re: Q14

Thanks so much Patrick for the great explanation. Well, so much for the "correspondence/accordance between main idea (Q8) and main purpose question (Q14)" theory! I want to add one more point/question though. For me as a non-anthropologist, the word "anthropology" associates with...

Re: Q23 - Many scientific discoveries have suggested

I'm not sure I follow you, Matt --- I thought if "many scientific studies" have shown correlation between melatonin intake and sleep inducement in ppl without insomnia, it would be very reasonable and safe to assume that the weaker correlation in (A) was due to the non-insomniacs part?? Co...

Re: Q14 - If legislators are to enact

Maybe i didn't have enough coffee this morning--- but isn't D kind of imprecise regarding the premise? Premise: ...legislations...arouse in their colleagues either repugnance or enthusiasm... D:legislators...for which they have repugnance or enthusiasm.. So in the premise, the legislators propose la...

Re: Q13

I thought the following may be one more weakness of D as a weakener: D says ...liquidation of A large and insolvent company.... as one instance vs. E says: countr IES ... do beeter than countr IES ... as sort of general rule I too picked D in the PT though, because of the same reason stated by mrudu...

Re: Q25

Thank you so much Noah! Your explanation, and especially the imaginary comment from the colonials totally helped me realize my mistake. Yeah I misunderstood the meaning of "source of debate". ...and after I understood that, I also realized that I missed the true gist of L5-L12. L10-12 is n...

Re: Q21

I also picked B. So L39-43 tells us that CLS charges legal formalism to require objectivism. I feel the unsaid inference here is that legal formalism would require objectivism however, objectivism is not established -->so legal formalism is unreasonable I mean, if the CLS people are OK with objec...

Re: Q25

I still feel totally lost about this question. "A source of debate" would mean something that is viewed differently by the colonials and the English? So we are supposed to look for a statement on which, the colonials believe, they would disagree with the English? But what the English think...

Re: Q15

I picked E in the end because I thought E is more modest and a safer choice. But I'm also kind of unsure about B. Mary, I thought the "always" in B is not that outrageous because it actually echoes another "always" in L23; and the entire sentence there (L22-24) can be seen as a b...

Re: Q21

I actually agree with Zee.brad because the question is asking for the situation of asylum seeker to qualify for refugee status under the social group category ( L2-3 of Q21). And the sentence Zeebrad cited (L48-51) totally gives the relevant criterium (L47-48): to use the social-group category to cl...

Re: Q7 - Murray: You claim senator Brandon

I was reluctant to pick E because I thought Jane does not necessarily agrees with it. Imagine she says this "That I have not criticized the same failing in others is because the others do not have the same failing! I was not avoiding criticizing them, Senator Brandon is just the only one who do...

I'd say D&E are from L46-47.
A&C are from L18-19 and actually also L45: activity of the military needs a military first, of course.

Re: Q17

Also agree with the previous posters. I was looking for an answer that is something like" to show that it is not possible to calculate the optimal tax size precisely". Such an answer would be in accordance with the "main gist" of the paragraph I thought. so I didn't like A at all...

I understand that D comes from L7-11, but I thought this is a comment from the author, instead of from Haraway? And the Q is asking with which AC Haraway would agree? ...Maybe Haraway just happened to come from a Primatology background so she wrote this book from the Primatology point of view? Maybe...

Re: Q7

Maybe one more thing to add to Matt's explanation: False reports in (D) only increases the number of crimes, whereas the age of new immigrants in (E) can increase or decrease the average age. This may be significant because the text emphasizes the "bi-directionality" of the impact of El ni...

Re: Q13

All right, I'm glad I'm not alone in finding Q13 frustrating. And thanks to Taco for phrasing my mind. I really WANTED to pick E since it makes sense according to the passage. I was searching for ever for a line that would support E, but could not find it. In case this happens in the real test, my q...

Re: Q15

Mmmmm, I see this Q completely differently --- First, high speciation is NOT equivalent to high diversity. Paragraph 1 stated very clearly (especially L10-14) that diversity = speciation - extinction ; and the observed high diversity is not a result of high speciation but low extinction rate, which ...

Re: Q4 - For newborns of age four

I agree that A, B, D, E all suck but does anybody also think that C sucks as well? We were only told about the situation when the mother is the primary caregiver, so how do we know if the behavior of the babies is a reaction to the primary caregiver or rather to their mother? Isn't it very likely th...

Re: Q24 - The brains of identical twins

Human diseases are typically due to both genetic and environmental factors. Genetic susceptibility describes the tendency of a person to get certain disease based on his/her genetic information. It has nothing to do with environmental factors (diet, habit, infection etc.) as assumed by zl7391e. In f...
