Is Resulted a verb here??

Thanks

"resulted" can't be anything other than a verb.

Hi Ron / Sage -- why can't "Resulted" be a verb-ed modifier ?

How do you know that "Resulted" is a verb and not a verb-ed modifier ?

Thank you !

Think about the meaning of the verb 'to result'. Make up a few example sentences in different tenses and constructions for yourself before you read on.

You might have noticed that you probably didn't find any passive constructions. You could say 'someone stole my bicycle' (active) or 'my bicycle was stolen' (passive), but you can't say 'the weather was resulted'. This is because the verb 'to result' can't have an object. Consequently we can't make a VERB-ed modifier from the verb 'to result'. Now, avoid getting all grammatical and complicated about this, but trust your understanding of the meaning of the words. Try making a sentence with 'resulted' as a modifier and you might feel that it doesn't make sense. Now take a few more verbs - to confirm, to exchange, to succeed, to consume, to occur - which can be used with VERB-ed modifiers?
