"digital" = electronic/computerized
"imprint(ing)" = printing/publishing

there's no 'i think x' or 'i don't think y' here. the words mean what they mean.

RonPurewal Wrote:remember, when you have any kind of parallel structure, you should be able to represent the parallel things reasonably as "#1 and #2", or as "(a) and (b)", or etc. these two things don't really pass that test.

more examples:
i have decided to take a new job, and i will make $100 per hour.
--> these don't make sense as "#1 and #2".
i like my new job, and i make $100 per hour.
--> these do.
.

Ron Sir when you say #! and #2 should be in parallel you mean to say clauses should be in parallel.
Clause 1, and Clause 2

and when you say (a) and (b) then you means that some list should be in parallel.

Is my understanding correct?

In the examples that you have quoted above the 2nd sentence in wrong example is in future tense. Is this the reason to refuse as to activities connected by "and" are not in the same tense?

no, it has nothing to do with tenses.

the point is that "i have decided to ..." is a thought that happens in an earlier timeframe than "i will make $x per hour."

for 2 thoughts that someone could actually have in the same timeframe, a parallel structure is appropriate even if the thoughts themselves have different tenses.
e.g.,
I have agreed to start my new job on Monday, and I will be paid $100 per hour.

RonPurewal Wrote:If you're looking ONLY at mechanics (always a bad idea), then, sure, those things look parallel.

The problem is that they shouldn't be parallel.

A "digital imprint division" does just that-- imprinting. Publishing.
An imprint division doesn't sell books.

hi RON,

i still need your clarifity , although i read whole posts
IMO, "under which it will publish...",
"it" refers to the publisher, "which" refers to imprint division, so my understanding is that under the imprint division, the trade-book publisher will publish....., and sell the works........

please help clarify where is incorrect?

thanks a lot..

have a nice day.

that's why that version doesn't work.

as noted in the part you quoted, an imprint division does what it says -- it publishes books. it doesn't sell them.

therefore:
Under its imprint division, the company will publish books. —> makes sense
Under its imprint division, the company will sell books. —> nonsense
Under its imprint division, the company will publish and sell books. —> nonsense
