"I have decided to take a new job, and i will make $100 per hour."
The above sentence is supposed to be wrong because the two sub-sentences are not parallel though I think this is how we converse normally :)
The sentence is wrong b/c the meaning is illogical b/c the second clause should be subordinate to the first. This is why you DON'T want a sentence like this. These aren't two equally important ideas. Use the word AND when clauses (or nouns, or anything else) are of equal importance.
I have decided to take a new job, and i will make $100 per hour. (if these clauses have no relationship, then why are you connecting them with an "and"?)
I have decided to take a new job WHERE I will make $100 per hour. (shows the subordinate importance of the second clause).
i like my new job, and i make $100 per hour. (I like X, I make Y; this gives me two facts-- I like something and I make something-- and because they go together, you can use the word "and" to connect them.)
