Using the Syllabus to study Reading Comprehension

Hello, I've been using the sample syllabus and the Manhattan GMAT Strategy guides to study on my own. I've found it to be very helpful, but I'm not sure how the syllabus is suggesting I use the RC strategy guide. In session 4, the syllabus suggests "Reading Comprehension Guide: Chapters 1-3&quo...

Using CATs to assess weaknesses

Hello, First a little background on me so that you get an idea of what I should be good at and where I might struggle. I have an MS and BS in Electrical Engineering from top programs (yet I'm struggling with Math as you'll see). I've been using all of the Manhattan GMAT Guides along with the the Off...

Re: Using CATs to assess weaknesses

Thanks Tim! Having studied some of the harder level problems, I'm feeling much more confident about my test on the 7th. However, I have a new question. My best MGMAT CAT was a 690 (45Q 38V) and I recently took my first GMAT Prep and scored a 710 (47Q 41). What I'm most encouraged about is that I fee...

Re: Using CATs to assess weaknesses

Thanks for the advice! I took the exam yesterday and did extremely well... a 750! I'm a little concerned about the AWA essays because I had a difficult time coming up strong examples in the essay portion. Both of my essays were well structured so I don't think I'll score lower than a 4. As long as I...

How "bad" can my AWA be?

Hello, I took the GMAT yesterday and scored extremely well (750, 49Q, 42V). However, I tend to struggle with the AWAs and I'm concerned about yesterday's Issue essay. I chose to argue for the side I normally would argue against, because I thought it would be easier to come up with examples. But I st...

Re: Using CATs to assess weaknesses

Hi Stacey, I'm surprised that I neglected to include the breakdown, but here you go: Quant: 49 Verbal: 42 Here's a few more CAT data points if you track these. I scored a 710 (47Q, 40V) on my last MGMAT CAT (10 days before exam) and a 730 (49Q, 40V) on my second GMAT Prep exam (6 days before exam). ...

Re: Strange MGMAT CAT Scores (3 days from Real Thing)

How many MGMAT CATs have you taken? If this was your 5th or 6th test and you had been scoring high in math on all previous tests, I've heard you can use up all of the "hard" questions so your score may not be a great indicator of actual ability. As far as MGMAT Verbal difficulty, I'd rate ...

Re: Is Early Decision worth it?

I think the boost is very marginal. Based on my undergraduate experience with early decision (which may not be analogous), if you are borderline they'll just waitlist you and wait to compare you against a bigger applicant pool. I wouldn't recommend applying early decision only because you think you'...

Re: How "bad" can my AWA be?

Congratulations! That's great news. I scored a 4.5, so I'm happy. I have always struggled with writing samples going back to CAT in 3rd grade. My Dad claims I even got a 1 or 2 on my SAT II writing sample.

Well, I guess the bottom line is I "passed". Best of luck on your applications.

Are recommendations REALLY that important???

Hi, I'm extremely frustrated/concerned. I recently submitted applications before the Rd 1 deadline, but I am missing one letter of recommendation because my most recent boss (he left 3 months ago) never submitted a recommendation. I spoke with him throughout the summer and 1 week before the deadline...
