Re: Q2 - Only 1,000 to 2,000 species of fruit flies exist

This is an inference question so we have to find an answer choice that must be true based on the information in the stimulus. Let's break it down sentence by sentence. 1st sentence: 1000 - 2000 fruit flies species exist worldwide (simple enough, all we know from this is that only a minimum of a 100...

Re: Q23 - Most of the mines

Im not sure why C is wrong...if every gold mine that M operates throughout the world violates regulations and most of the mines(include gold mines) M operates in V never violates regulations doesnt what C say correct? Took me a minute to figure this out, but since it's the only appealing choice oth...

Re: Q1 - Editorialist: Advertisers devote millions

Sure thing. It's a Strengthen question. The argument core is as follows: CONC The results of democratic elections can't be viewed as representing the unadulterated preferences of the people (translation: voters in democratic countries have been brainwashed to some extent in terms of whom they end u...

Re: Q12 - The number of North American

Now, let's imagine that the number of obese kids jumps to 30. Can we just say that those 30 kids have more body fat than the remaining 70 kids? What's the problem with that? Think about that before reading on. If we have a 30-70 split, than some of those 30 kids are not qualifying as obese. For exa...

Re: Q19 - A tree’s age can be determined

D) Does not help us determine age of the tombs. If one tomb had a tree that was 90 years old and another tree that was 450 years old, how would we determine the age of the tomb? We would have a range 90-450 years ago but this would not allow us to figure out the relative age of the tombs to each ot...

Re: Q15 - M: It is almost impossible

For anyone still having trouble discounting answer D, the answer is wrong because "social pressures" is actually supported by Q's response, whereas "genetic disposition" is the part being denied support. Only half of it is correct. In having "social pressures" being sup...

Re: Q14 - Historian: Leibniz, the seventeenth-century

Sometimes it's hard to decide what's actually necessary and what just sounds necessary! So true! This question is asking for a necessary assumption. Let's ID the core: The conclusion is that Lieniz and Newton each independently discovered calculus. Why? What's the premise? It takes a bit of digesti...

The most important factor in B being correct is that the stim assumes that since methane falls apart when exposed to sunlight, this methane must have been released recently. If B is negated to "some methane in the atmosphere of Mars is not exposed to sunlight," then the contention that thi...

Re: Q8 - Measurements of the extent

The question asks us to identify a conclusion for which the statements offer the most support. We know the following: 1. a technique measuring amino-acid decomposition can be used to date archeological sites in place like South Africa as far back as 200,000 years. 2. because amino-acid decompositio...

Re: Q20 - Some people have been promoting

(E) Rules out the possibility that this mixture isn't preferred by many people. This is saying that, in general, people don't have strong allegiances towards other remedies (C) is the only one that really doesn't need to be assumed in order for the argument to work. We don't need to assume anything...

I certainly see you point. But (A) is still more extreme than the text"”"complete" is an absolute term. I would be wary of it as soon as I read it and look for a better answer. (Although I agree with you that it's attractive. If (C) weren't there I'd choose it.) (C) is supported by t...

Re: Q1 - For the last ten years, Metro City's bridge-maintenance

Nice identification. On Main conclusion questions (just in case you don't already know this), the main conclusion is almost always the first sentence or in the middle after a but/yet/however. We need a paraphrase of "for the last 10 years, MC's bridge maintenance budget has been a prime exampl...

Re: Q12 - Politician: It is wrong for the government

Sure, it's simply a matter of degree. "Infer" means must be true, while "most supported" means more support than anything else. "Most Supported" questions have a lower bar of proof than "Must be True" questions. Hope that answers your question! Hey Matt. I'm ...

Re: Q10 - the city should not build incinerators

We can solve this using logical method or using the core method used by those that rely primarily on intuition, I use both methods depending on the question. Logic Method: WR= Waste resources W = Wrong BI = Burning trash in incinerators RT= Recycle Trash Fewer WR= Fewer resources wasted IB = Incine...

Thanks for posting! This is kind of a weird one. I've never seen this kind of wording in an answer choice, and so I wouldn't get too worked up about it -- I think this is a relic of an older era of LSAT. Anyway, I think your explanation is right on the money. Ms. Chan said she retired from Quad Cit...

The argument tries to conclude that the organ symphonies of Louis Vierne are religious music. Why? Because they are divinely inspired. Hey Matt. Re: Q20 - Ann will either take a leave

After looking at this again (I originally guessed B), I noticed it's possible to use the key premise method advocated by many instructors. This isn't a foolproof technique, but in this case "leave of absence" and "allowing a leave of absence" are both missing from the conclusion....

(D) is close, but misses the mark. We don't know that this is the ONLY way N is found in the atmosphere, just that it's one way. So if I understand correctly (D) is wrong because it suggests that nitrogen could exist in the atmosphere without vaporizing from ice on the surface? I'm curious how that...
