Re: Q15 - M: It is almost impossible

I couldn't understand the question (Q's response serves to...)

It was phrased in an unnecessarily complex manner! But after reading the posted explanation I was like oh so that's what they were asking.

Are questions phrased in such a manner common in the later LSATs?

Re: Q4

Ahh, the key phrase!

"As that effect is presented in the passage!"

I see it now. Just breezed through the question. Gotta pay more attention to those last words!

Thank you!

Re: Q4 - The United States government

If I had to solve this through process of elimination (which I did), I would have eliminated all answer choices. I still find it very difficult to equate state expeditures with state allocations. The author only tells us that federal expenditures are really low, so low that they are below allocation...

Re: Q9

Thanks, so there's just no easy way out other than to brute force and carefully evaluate every answer choice.

Re: Q24

Oh goodness I read the question as "best describes the organization of the passage."

No wonder I couldn't find a correct answer choice!!! Yes your explanation makes perfect sense now. Thank you!

Re: Q19

Removal of an offending gene does not necessarily mean that an organism will have one less gene. I majored in biomedical engineering and unless I'm so out of touch with current genetics (or Feb 1993 genetics...) genes which are removed must be replaced by another strand of genetic code (typically co...

Q4

I was deciding between (B) and (E) and finally picked correct answer choice (E), because (B) said that "since 1947, it has had little effect." We can infer from paragraph 1 that while union membership may not have decreased after 1947, there is an effect of wage depression through 2 mechan...

Q9

I got this one right but I find these generically worded answers time consuming to unpack. I probably spent a good 3 minutes fully checking out each of the answers, got it down to (A) and (E) and finally picked correct answer (A).

Is there a more efficient way to do this?

Re: Q4 - In stating the argument

Ok I must say I don't quite agree... I understood state allocations for expenditures to mean the allocated budget for expenditures rather than actual expenditures reported by state... To summarize, Me: allocations = budget or potential spend You: allocations = actual spend attributed to the state Wh...

Q4

I picked B because of "uncomplicated" in line 12. After learning the answer was E, I understand why it is the right answer (paraphrase of lines 7 to 9)

How do I not get thrown off by such references in future RC's? I tend to make my own incorrect inferences on RC.

Re: Q18 - Mary, a veterinary student

I missed the part about her being a vet student and not a practicing vet but I eliminated (B) because she was not reaaally taking the life of an animal... She was performing an experiment which just had as an unfortunate coincidence the death of the animal. If the stimulus was about sacrificing lab ...

Q4 - The United States government

Correct answer choice (E) states that state expenditures are compared with federal expenditures, however there is nothing known about state expenditures. We are only told that "the federal expenditures... have been less than the allocations of some individual states." How can we equate act...

Q5

Would someone please explain why 1 in 100 is correct and 1 in 1000 is wrong? Where is the inference which helps us establish that asteroid systems did or did not resemble those of planets???

Thanks!

Re: Q23 - An advertisement states:

Hi Matt, Answer choice (C) has a scope shift from headache pain (Danaxil claim) vs headache (choice C). From the ad we do not know anything about relief of headaches, only headache pains. So why is (C) right It could be that Danaxil relieves the pain at least as quickly as any other pill, but it may...

Re: Q4 - Seventy-five percent of dermatologists

Hey guys, really had doubts over (B) because I didn't think that a small sample size could be a valid flaw. Taking the example above where only a handful of dermatologists (4) were surveyed, if the 4 were like the most influential/most respected/most up-to-date/blah blah dermatologists on Earth, wou...

Re: Q12 - Columnist: If you received

When the question states "proceeds by," does the sequence of "events" in the answer choice have to match the sequence of "events" in the stem?

If so, (B) could be quickly ruled out as it mixes up former and latter...

Re: Q16 - We can learn about

This is ridiculous. Why does some in (B) work. It could be just as well that some precludes the Proto-Indo-European language.

Why is the assumption that "some" includes PIE language fair to make whereas the assumption that fish in (A) come from the sea unfair to make.

Please explain!
