Question: #1898

by larissadavis13 Thu Oct 27, 2016 11:35 am

Can you please explain why the second answer is correct here? If the first choice is a leap, can you explain how it is a leap?

Professional athletes experience muscle cramps when excessive perspiration causes potassium levels to drop. The most efficient way to maintain potassium levels is to eat bananas while competing. Bananas are very high in potassium, though an athlete would likely need to eat five or six per hour.

Which of the following is mentioned in support of the main conclusion?

1) Eating bananas is a great way to replenish potassium supplies while competing.

2) Bananas contain a lot of potassium.

Sure, thing.

The question is basically asking "Which of these answers was a premise in the above argument?"

The conclusion of the argument is that "the most efficient way to maintain potassium levels is to eat bananas while competing.

The evidence is that "bananas are high in potassium".

So #2 is correct because it is mentioned IN SUPPORT of the previous claim. #1 is wrong because it resembles the CONCLUSION, not the SUPPORT.
