Question 1879

by blroyster Sun Mar 03, 2013 5:18 pm

Q) Due to a general economic downturn, the school district either has to lay off some teachers or cut the pay of all teachers. Teachers are already underpaid, so it would be better to lay off some teachers, even though those teachers will have to find new jobs.

Which of the following is mentioned as an opposing point to the main conclusion?

Please explain the rationale?
Thanks

"even though those teachers would have to find new jobs" is the opposing point to the conclusion "it would be better to lay of some teachers rather than cut the pay of all teachers."

The words "Even though" should signal that it's an opposing point since it's conceding a potential drawback of laying off teachers, namely that it will be tough for them to find jobs given the economic downturn.
