Q9

Can someone pelase go thorough and explain these answer choices? A C and E were somewhat easy to rule out. B is supported by line 36-38 "the Scar artists chose instead to focus on the private, MUNDANE, and the particular..." to me this proves B because that fact it was mundane would make it less interesting

D seemed to come out of left field. I thought that the passage made no comparison, especially causal, about relation between policies

The Scar Artists were operating in response to the cultural revolution (in reaction to its monotony, see line 20). They painted the mundane, but that wasn't the art sanctioned by the government during the CR. So that wasn't the art that needs to be less interesting.

But other lines support (B), including line 20, which describes Revolutionary Realism as monotonous. The rest of the passage then goes on to discuss the kinds of varied art that flourished in response to it.

(A) is supported by line 16.

(C) is supported by line 15.

(E) is clear by the scope of the passage.

Hope this helps!

But i feel D is what the author is trying to infer, the passage explains the art movement is a result of the restricted gov policies, isnt it reasonable to infer from this that a liberal policy would be less likely to do so? Thanks!

The issue with D here is the word "generally". This passage, in no way makes reference to being a typical case, if anything it seems to be the exception (see 'Ironically' line 16).

Had this answer spoken only in references to this particular movement, then your response may be more warranted.
