On this question, is "B" correct because of a mathematical error? Since the question asks what "cannot be true," it would seem that answer B is false, as a normal cell only could divide fifty-nine more times under the stated circumstance, rather than the sixty listed.

I think the key to this problem is recognizing the distinction between a liver cell and a human liver cell, and then, to a lesser degree, noticing the difference between a normal and an abnormal human liver cell.

What we know, based on the argument, is that a normal human liver cell can split a maximum of 60 times.

If a liver cell, therefore, is capable of dividing more than 60 times, we know it cannot be a normal human liver cell.

Stimulus: Cells grown in laboratory tissue culture were immortal as long as their needs were met _ Disproved. Normal cells have a finite time of reproducing. Human liver cells can only divide 60 times, even if frozen at 30 times, it will remember where it left off, and then divide another 30x only.

Question stem: Cannot be true _ a liver cell that can divide more than 60 times

A) There is no discussion on the number of times an abnormal human liver cell can divide.
B) (Correct answer choice), if it divides more than 60 times, it is NOT a normal human liver cell, this contradicts the stimulus.
C) There is no discussion of nonhuman species.
D) There is no discussion of nonhuman species.
E) There is no discussion of nonhuman species.
