First, we should try to find text relating to "the goals and interests of Scar Art" so that we have some buzzwords to look for in the answer choices.
We know from our Passage Map that Scar Art was mainly discussed in P2.
Lines 30-43 give us a lot of buzzwords:
- represent "scarred reality" they saw in exile (the harsh realities of rural poverty and misery)
- emphasize day-to-day hardships of rural life
- private, mundane, particular
- modernization = bleak
(A) Too happy for the rurals.
(B) Nothing activating keywords here. A large fire is bad, but it doesn't indicate it's rural, and we wouldn't assume that large fires are a day-to-day hardship. Finally, "symbolism" is what Revolutionary Realism did, not Scar Art.
(C) Private, mundane, particular, day-to-day hardship, rural ... hits a lot of keywords.
(D) Farm = rural. But that's about it. Like (B), "caricature" and "symbolism" are at odds with the painfully dry, literal realism that Scar Artists wanted to show. There's no indication of any negativity in this answer choice.
(E) Happy rural?
