PT52 S4 Q6: the passage does NOT...

by didi0504 Tue Nov 23, 2010 3:35 pm

I picked A b/c the passage didn't mention anything about "reforming the Senegalese government"

but I am wondering where can I find evidence in the passage that supports that Sembene "exhibits interest in the vicissitudes of ordinary people's lives"?

I'd say it's sort of inferred from a few different places in the text -- definitely not explicitly stated.

First paragraph, lines 5-8, for example, and the whole second paragraph.

The answer is A, unless my answer key is wrong...

And that's exactly why they're looking to eliminate answer choice (D) in the discussion above. The question asks for what attitude is NOT supported.

Answer choice (A) Is correct and is unsupported by the passage.

(B) is found on lines 16-18.
(C) is found on lines 58-59.
(D) is found on lines lines 20-24 and 44-47
(E) is found on lines 44-47

Hope that helps!

Hi Matt,

Thanks for pointing out the lines where I can find the evidence for the wrong answers.

But I'm still a bit confused on (D) which is the answer I ended up changing from (A).

I changed it to (D) when I read that his films denounce "political injustice." But I think I made an assumption that political injustice is same as government.

I'm having a hard time seeing how lines 20-24 and 44-47 show the author's interest in the vicissitudes of ordinary people's lives.

Please help!

Happy to help hyewonkim89!

Another way of phrasing answer choice (D) is that Sembéne exhibits interests in the changing circumstances of ordinary peoples' lives. Lines 20-24 talk about the different stages of an individual's life, and these stages are represented by very different circumstances. Lines 44-47 talk about a journey that brings about changes to the worldview of the protagonist.

Essentially, answer choice (D) is supported (meaning eliminate) because Sembéne shows an interest in ordinary people and their various stages and circumstances in life.

Hope that helps!
