Q5 - Bacteria on plastic and wooden cutting board

by 513852276 Wed Jul 22, 2015 8:11 pm

Even contrary to D, as "Bacteria that penetrate into wooden cutting boards do reemerge on the surface after the cutting boards have been used, but those bacteria immediately die after reemerging" may justify leaving wooden cutting boards unwashed. So, answer choice D is not a necessary assumption :?:

Yeah, that’s true. There could be a way that the bacteria could reemerge and not contaminate the food. However, you have to add extra information to make that work. The argument rests on the idea that unwashed wooden boards are safe BECAUSE bacteria are not on the surface. (D) harms this specific reasoning. The negation of (D) alone : “bacteria reemerge to the surface of wooden boards” attacks the notion that the surface is bacteria-free.
