PT39, Q4 - Based on the passage, which one of the following

by clarafok Fri Dec 31, 2010 3:40 am

Hello,

I'm not quite clear as to why the answer to #4 is D because I don't see where it talks about borrowing techniques from other cultures in the passage. Did I overlook this detail? Can someone please explain this to me??

Thanks!

Thanks for posting!

In the third paragraph, we're told that the muralists "shared a common interest in rediscovering their Mexican national identity," and that Diego Rivera went about this by incorporating "elements from pre-Columbian sculpture and the Italian Renaissance fresco into his murals." So if rediscovery of national identity was the muralists' common interest, and Rivera, one of the foremost muralists, used techniques borrowed from other cultures to achieve his artistic goals, then we can infer that the muralists would likely agree to (D).

(A) is contradicted by the passage, which makes clear that the muralists were very interested in content.

(B) is unsupported. We know there was government support, but have no idea whether the muralists considered it to be essential.

(C) is contradicted; we know the muralists used realism.

(E) is totally out of scope. There's nothing about this in the passage.

Does that answer your question?
