Q3 - Alzheimer's Disease

by CharlesT757 Tue Aug 04, 2020 8:54 pm

I got this one wrong initially but after blind review, I ended up with the correct answer.

Task: ID Main Conclusion

Background Information: Woman>Men suffer from Alzheimer's Disease :(
Conclusion: This might be because women live longer, but this theory may be wrong.
Premise: There is a lack of estrogen in older women, and proscribing them more estrogen helped against the disease. :)
Premise 2: Men tend to have testosterone in older ages, which is converted into estrogen.

So this is a long stimulus but the conclusion is in the second sentence. The theory may be wrong that more women get Alzheimer’s because they live longer.

(A) This is the correct answer. Some other phenomena (in this case the decrease in estrogen) may explain why more women suffer from Alzheimer's

(B) This is just reiterating the background information in the first sentence. We are looking for the main conclusion of the argument.

(C) The argument never talks about younger women going through menopause. We only know about older women/men.

(D) This answer is true but it's premise 2 (last sentence). Remember, we are looking for the main conclusion.

(E) An extreme answer. We have no idea if testosterone is necessary.

I hope this helps someone out!
