Q25

by amywasylyk Sat Aug 13, 2011 9:47 am

I think I am having trouble with what this question is asking. If it's trying to ask what term reveals the author's attitude, then I'm not understanding how the word "conveniently" in the context of the passage accomplishes this. I guess if I had to work it out I would say it was because the Modernists conveniently ignored other aspects of architecture (i.e. functionality and updated and modernized construction practices. But the question just seems kind of quirky to me.

When you read a passage, you should look at the choice of words the author uses.

When the author used "conveniently" along with the word ignore, that shows an opinion. This opinion is not in the favorable sense either.

The author could have simply said that they ignored other aspects of their work. That would have been just a factual statement made by the author.

However, to use the word conveniently implies that it was fitting their agenda, an agenda that the author did not much care for.

The other choices do not have any opinion tied in with it.
