Re: Q25 - Student: If a person has an immunity

You bring up a great point brettboresow! Why read every word of every wrong answer? If an answer takes a wrong turn at any point, then it's wrong. No need to continue reading, right? You be the judge on whether moving faster through these is safe for you.

The argument is based on reversed logic.

A --> B
B
----------
A

Answer choice (D) also commits reversed logic and is correct.

Incorrect Answers
(A) negates the inference of two premises. From a structure perspective, there are two premises that connect an "all" statement and a "some" statement. The conclusion negates the inference of the two premises.
(B) negates, rather than reverses the logic, as well as the strength of the conclusion is weaker than in the stimulus.
(C) is a valid argument using contrapositive argument structure.
(E) presents an argument of causation, while the stimulus reverses a conditional relationship.

Q25 - Student: If a person has an immunity

by brettboresow Sat Aug 27, 2016 11:42 pm

I got this answer correct and felt like identifying D was relatively easy. It matched the Mistaken Reversal/Negation of the stimulus. I was hoping for some feedback on how to eliminate answer choices quicker.

Could we eliminate A for using "some" morally right actions? Or is that not a valid reason for dismissal?
C & E both deal with health similar to the stimulus. Although not grounds for eliminating I felt like these probably wouldn't be great choices. So I'm comfortable skipping and coming back if need be. But is there a quick way 100% eliminate B, C, or E without having to read through each answer?

Thanks

Hello can someone please break down the A and B and how it was reversed in stimulus.
I thought I only look at the second sentence to make the conditional statement.

Thank you

I eliminated (D) once I saw the word "less", because I think even people are less willing to expand their business, they might still expand them. So (D) has a gap from the "less willing to expand" to the "decline in business expansion". But in the stimulus, there is no such gap.

Can anyone explain this to me?

Thanks in advance.
