Q2

I got this right while taking a preptest but I circled it as a challenging problem and below is my analysis of the answer choices. If any of it seems questionable please comment.

A - This is the opposite of what is indicated. Directly contradicts lines 21-24.

B - This is not supported by the passage at all.

C - This is the opposite of what is indicated. Lines 21-24 and 31-35 show that if anything they are less proficient and unable to learn more during these time frames.

D - To conclude this you must link different parts of the passage. Lines 30-32 show that the specified brain region varies at different parts of the year. Lines 32-35 put a date that links this relationship. The other link which helps confirm the late summer part is found in lines 21-24.

E - Lines 21-24 show that during this time a canary could only perform rudimentary attempts at singing (lines 14-16 comes closest to describing a juvenile bird's singing abilities) , which contrasts strongly with "slightly modified"

Nice explanation Alex, looks good!

With regard to answer choice (B), it does take an extra step, but one might conclude that this answer choice also implies that the brain of the canary is building in size as it does during the winter and spring, replacing neurons that were lost during the late summer and fall. Indicating that this answer choice may contradict the passage as well.

Nice work!
