can you please explain what is wrong with option C? Is it more an overstatement for description of Hughes attention to details?

Thanks

There isn't anywhere in the passage where we learn about Hughes' feeling towards details in poetry.

This question asks us what is obscured by the "deceptive veil" referenced in the second paragraph. Let's figure out what the author was talking about there. A quick glance back tells us that it's a "veil of artlessness," meaning that Hughes made it seem that there was no art, or artfully constructed elements in his work, but that there in fact were. (B) notes the artfulness that the veil covers, and is supported by lines 43-48, where we learn that Hughes prided himself on his ability to write poetry, but his poems were actually very carefully crafted.

(A) refers to oral techniques, which were mentioned earlier in the paragraph. However, they're not part of what Hughes tries to cover - in fact, his work has the "distinctive marks" of an oral tradition, suggesting that he's not hiding anything.

(C) is unsupported. We don't learn anything about Hughes' concern for details in his poetry - we know he carefully crafted his poems, but what that means specifically is not mentioned.

(D) is tempting, since there's a lot of discussion of African American authors incorporating Western European traditions. However, this is something that Hughes rebels against, and it's definitely not what is being referred to by the "veil of artlessness."

(E) is out of scope.
