Q2

by cyruswhittaker Fri Sep 17, 2010 10:38 pm

For this game, I found the biggest challenge was just to keep organized.

However, [question 2] was rather time-consuming for me. I eventually answered Q after realizing that if Q is in Th. morning, it forces Q and K to go together (due to rule 1, J cannot be in the afternoon), but it took me more time than I expected.

I was wondering if there was a quicker way you could provide for me to have seen this inference faster, rather than getting to this question and having to just try out the workshops with hypotheticals (very time consuming).

Thanks.

The question is not supposed to be terribly difficult. I think the best way is to look for activities that are the most limited. If you look at the partial tree established by the relative constraint, you can see that Q is the most limited. Q must have two activities behind it. K and N each have only one activity that must be in front of them. The chunks relating to J and R are undetermined in terms of location, so the most constrained activity is Q.

That makes it a prime target to test first!

Does that make sense?

if q is thur am, then k must be friday pm, b/c j & q/k, hence violate q > k & n ... no place for n after q ...
