Q2 - No one wants this job

by LSAT-Chang Thu Aug 25, 2011 9:29 pm

Quick question on this one..

I went with (A) just because I was looking into modifiers, and thought that answer choice (C)'s mention of "she will be looking for a buyer in vain" doesn't necessarily match up with "it follows that there will not be ANY applicants"...

(C) still seems to say that she will be looking for someone, so there is a possibility left open that she will be able to find someone, whereas the argument says that there will be NO OTHER applicants.

So I honestly didn't see any difference between (C) and (B) since (B) says "all we can do now is hope to find someone else" which sounds like "she will be looking for a buyer in vain" -- so basically both sound like there is little hope but not that there is NO hope at all.

Any help?? :D

Vain means that it will not produce a result.

The stimulus goes like this:

Joshua wants this job more than anyone.
+
Joshua will not apply for it.

---> No applicants

Flaw is, of course, that just because Joshua wanted the job more than anyone does not mean that those other people would not apply.

Answer choices:

A) Flawed in a different manner. Just because she is the best at spotting errors in programs does not give us just right to conclude that, indeed, the computer program part that she checked is free of errors.

B) This is the closest of all of the wrong answer choices. However, this is different than the stimulus in the fact that this one says all you can do is hope, while the other says NO WAY.

C)

Manfred strongest motive of anyone to buy land
+
Manfred will not pursue buying it.

---> No buyers

D) Redouble efforts?

E) I have never seen a more wrong answer in all of my studies.

Hahahahaha!! Me neither, timmydoeslsat. Well said. And great analysis on the other choices.
