Q18 - North Americas who travel to Europe

by lhermary Tue Sep 27, 2011 5:17 pm

I'm having a hard time understanding why C is right here.

C talks about accessibility while the stimulus talks about the appreciation which is why I ruled C out and chose B instead.

Thanks

It's important to look beyond the superficial subject matter and look for the deeper principle.

In the stimulus we learn that it's best to spend more time delving into X (Italy), which is the easiest to "get into," to really get an appreciation of the general topic (Europe).

(C) has the same idea: emphasize Wharton, the one that's easiest to "get into" ("most accessible"), to get an appreciation ("superb introduction") into the general topic (U.S. literature).

(A) suggests studying a more difficult type of music, not an easier one.

(B) has no reference to choosing something that's easy to access, or gaining a general appreciation of something.

(D) has no reference to choosing something that's easy to access.

(E) has no reference to choosing something that's easy to access.

I was drawn to C until I read "while also studying the works of others."

Is this the right answer because the passage talks about a thorough knowledge "at least" one country?

Thanks in advance!

The stimulus mentions that Italy should be part of a broader trip around Europe, so (C) doesn't set off any alarms there.

My reasoning in hesitating to choose answer C was also the last bit of "...emphasize her work while also studying the works of others"

To me it was introducing a different group in combination to Edith Wharton while the stimulus had no mention of another group or country in addition to Italy

Any help would be appreciated

North America is not really home away from where I do live and there travel expert always suggests us to do more traveling to explore more than anything and Europe is also beautiful to Rome around with a bunch of friends.
