Q15

by kcozen Fri Sep 26, 2014 11:04 am

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could explain 15. I understand that the correct answer is C, and I see how that could be correct. But how is A incorrect?

The question is a could be false question. I used the following mock gameboard to get A:

Seat #: 1 2 3
Row G: Q R S
Row H: U T

With this setup, A.) Quentin sits in a seat numbered 3 can be false. So since A is incorrect, I'm clearly missing something. But I can't figure out why this setup is incorrect.

Could anyone offecr insight on this?

You haven't fully satisfied the third condition, "Shiro and Umeko sit in lower numbered seats than does Tony." You have U in a lower numbered seat than T, but not S.

With information that Tony is in a seat numbered 2, there are only two options, with Q able to float between G3 and H3:

Seat #: 1 2 3
Row G: S R Q/
Row H: U T /Q

Hence, (C) could be false because Q could be in row H away from R, but (A) must be true. Hope this helps!
