Why is C wrong?

What line references make the "complement one another" portion of D correct?

Any general thoughts on how this inference was made?

C is something that we do not even know is true. C's language is "the effect of hormones on animal behavior and physiology has only recently been discovered."

What about the effects gonadal hormones have on reproductive behavior? That is something mentioned in the first line of the passage. We do not know if that has recently been discovered.

Think about how the passage itself starts. It states that discussions of how hormones influence behavior have usually been limited to a certain narrow kind of conversation, aka reproductive behavior.

But now, the author shows, we have a situation where other hormones can effect behavior. Instead of talking about reproductive behavior, we can now talk about hormones effecting the control of water and salt consumption.

Answer choices:

A) Way too narrow to be the main point.

B) Talks about avoiding dehydration. What about avoiding further dilution of body fluids? Both were discussed equally and in relation to a larger main point. Eliminate.

C) We do not know this to be true.

E) We do not know this to be true.

Also B talks about physiological malfunction. This is never mentioned in the passage, which makes B out of scope. We are told about a physiological system that is well functioning...not one that malfunctions.

As for C, even if we knew it were true, the scope would be way too narrow.
