Why is B not correct because having g and m, puts i and f in w, which violates the rule that f cant be with i or m?

Q15

In a Grouping game, when a question stem is essentially asking, “Which of these answers would/wouldn’t work as Group X”, it’s usually helpful to write the roster of characters (in this case, F G I M S) nearby, because with each answer we really want to ask ourselves Who’s Left?

Usually the problems with some of these answers is what’s happening off screen. I usually turn the answer choices in to a diagram so that I can test scenarios right off to the side of each answer choice.

.......T...........W.........Y.......who’s left
A) F, G ................................I, M, S
B) G, M ...............................F, I, S
C) G, S ...............................F, I, M
D) I, M ...............................G, F, S,
E) I, S .................................F, G, M

Since W > Y, we know with the remaining 3 people, 2 go to W and 1 goes to Y.

We need to make sure the FI and FM aren’t together, and we need to check on the St, Iy rule.

I would start with that latter rule and look for any answer where S doesn’t appear. If S isn’t in group ‘t’, then I must be in group ‘y’.

.......T...........W.........Y.......who’s left
A) F, G .....................I.......... M, S
B) G, M ....................I..........F, S
C) G, S ...............................F, M, I
D) I, M ...................huh?.....G, F, S
E) I, S .................................F, G, M

By running that check, we find out that (D) is the correct answer. In this scenario we’ll break the last rule, because T won’t have S, nor will Y have I.
