This is a main idea question, so let's go right to the answer.
(A) is way too narrow. This the passage is about a LOT MORE than just one novel!
(B) CORRECT. The passage discusses Chopin in relation to different movements in women's fiction.
(C) mistakenly uses the word "typical." We know that Chopin wasn't a member of the local colorists later on, and we have no idea of knowing which branch of that literature was the "typical" one.
(D) describes the passage as intended to counter a claim; there is no support for this anywhere.
(E) implies the passage is about ascribing relative value to various authors, but this is never done.
