Q14

by dre.wat.son987 Fri Nov 06, 2009 6:11 pm

I am having trouble with number 14.

I came up with hypotheticals that prove that there are at least 6 possibilities. I can not figure out why A is the correct answer for this particular question

Hi. I think Aileen's explanation of #13 is very good. For #14 though, I think the key is in realizing that T and V cannot ever be next to each other (5th constraint). Given the conditional constraint in the question, this means that slots 5 and 7 will always have T/V and V/T and be separated by Q in slot 6. Y has to go in slot 4, since only Y or W can go there (2nd constraint), and we see that W can't possibly in this case (there would be no room for all the stuff that has to come after it: SYRTV). So there are 4 possibilities:

Is the best way to solve this drawing out the possibilities? Or is there another way?

For Q14, could the answer be C?

Can we have R in front of WS to give us
RWSYTQV
RWSYVQT

in addition to
WRSYTQV
WRSYVQT
WSRYTQV
WSRYVQT

Thank you.

These won't work because the question specifically noted "if Wooster arrives at some time before Rockville"...
