Q14 - A new computer system will not significantly

by ohthatpatrick Thu Jul 27, 2017 3:02 pm

Question Type:
Inference (Logical Completion)

Stimulus Breakdown:
IF a new system doesn't force employees to adopt new/better ways of working, it won't significantly increase efficiency.

The new MT system is being built to fit the existing ways of working, so …..

Answer Anticipation:
We are given a conditional rule and then a fact we can apply the rule to. If we're building the system to fit existing ways of working, then we're (presumably) NOT forcing employees to adopt new ways of working, so we can conclude that
we WON'T get a significant increase in efficiency.

Correct Answer:
A

Answer Choice Analysis:
(A) Yup! This sounds like the consequence of the conditional rule.

(B) We never spoke about computer malfunctions.

(C) We never spoke about "the leaders" or "what they're concerned with".

(D) We never spoke about whether anything was "worthwhile" (although you might fudge that significant increases in efficiency = worthwhile). We also never compared automatic vs. manual processes.

(E) We never spoke about the difficulty of learning the new system.

Takeaway/Pattern: Our correct answer is just supposed to pull the two strands together. Answers that bring in new ideas (or extreme ideas) should be viewed with utmost suspicion.

I am actually mad at this particular question. "Appreciable" is in no known universe an acceptable paraphrase for "significant." I picked D at first and C in blind review, both times confident that A is wrong. This question should get unscored. A looked exactly like one of those common shell games answers where scope is shifted from stimulus. Shame on LSAC for producing such a sloppy question.
