I understand the rule that says if O is in a rug, then P must also be in a rug. I don't understand is why there is a third spot in the diagram OP?
Why are we assuming there must be a third?

I don't think they were assuming there was a third.
I think the "?" was meant to convey "and maybe a third?"

It's definitely an idiosyncratic choice to symbolize it that way. If you just had
O --> P
~P --> ~O
you're fine
