Q13 - Few politicians

by mokology Thu Mar 21, 2013 4:44 pm

I need help!

Can someone please explain to me why answer choice (A) is INCORRECT.

I understood that the stimulus introduces August Frenson as an instance of the broader generalization occurring (few politicians will support legislation that conflicts with their own self-interest)

Is A incorrect because the answer assumes mistakenly that there is a conditional relationship? So the falsity of August Frenson would not necessarily cause the generalization to be incorrect?

B was my runner up but I need to understand why it is the better answer choice.

Thanks!

You got it! The Frenson example is just a single instance supporting that generalization in the first sentence and has no impact on the conditional logic in the conclusion. I would even consider the August Frenson example as "fluff" or "filler" as it plays no real role in the core, but because we're asked specifically about it in the question stem it's kind of important we know why it's there.
