The pysch prof's argument is:

SS dep'ts can best teach students --> applied stats should be taught only in SS dep'ts

The math prof responds by saying:

I teach the same material and use the same textbook.

The problem with the math prof's response is that he doesn't address the premise the psych prof gives for her argument: that SS dep'ts are BEST at teaching applied stats. For her, it wasn't a question of just whether another dep't could or did also teach it and/or whether that dep't used the same materials.

(E) says if the textbook is not the same the course content will not the same. The math prof actually assumes the opposite (reverse logic): if the textbook is the same, the course will be the same. (E) provides and improper reversal of his assumption.

(A) is about student choice--out of scope.

(B) is the same as (A).

(D) is wrong; there is no personal attack.

Hope this helps!

I also picked answer choice E instead of C. I thought the argument core is in the mathematics professor's not the psychology professor. How can I tell by looking at the question stem which professor is being questioned? Thanks
