I would attempt to summarize this convoluted passage (atleast I felt so :| )

NGF:Definition
Who discovered it

Levi's Work:( to discover NGF)
-cells programmed to die
-embryo produce more cells than required
-mouse tumor cells chemical stimluted nerve cell growth in chick embryo
-confirmed the study results outside the body(in lab etc)

Confirming Lev's study results
NGF characteristic and nature
-supplied locally/by supporting cells
-needed for survival and developing of cells
