Passage Discussion

by chike_eze Sun Jul 03, 2011 10:49 pm

Passage Structure:

Describes CAW Plan
- Who's involved: workers, lawyers
- Legal fees: in/out lawyers

Lawyers are Concerned
- Correlation btwn CAW and lower fees
- Other concerns...
- CAW Admin counter claim: benefit to client and lawyer

Opinion Claim: CAW Admin claim is unlikely
- Low participation from reputable lawyers
- more support for claim...
- ** lower quality of service for clients ** (due to CAW approach)

Looks good!

I'd add a few things, see my edits in bold to your outline below.

Passage Structure:

Describes CAW Plan
- Who's involved: workers, lawyers
- Legal fees: in/out lawyers
- popular w/ auto workers, spreading to other industries

But Opp. Point: Lawyers are Concerned
- Correlation btwn CAW and lower fees
- Other concerns...
- CAW Director counter claim: benefit to client and lawyer

AUTHOR Op.: CAW unlikely good for both long-term (Directors wrong)
- Low participation from reputable lawyers
- more support for claim...
- lower prices mean lower quality (due to CAW approach)

Here's a scale and passage map for this one.

Image

PASSAGE MAP:

P1: Background/details concerning the CAW and other Canadian prepaid legal services.

P2: Some people's objections to prepaid legal services. Supporters of prepaid respond.

P3: Author evaluates prepaid and concludes they are likely to turn out badly for customers/lawyers.
