Passage Discussion

by BreeJ635 Mon Jun 24, 2019 12:09 pm

Hi! I thought I had a good grasp of understanding the passage and how the argument was made however I missed more than half the questions for this passage and none for the others (which I thought were more difficult). Could someone please give a brief outline? Maybe I'm mischaracterizing approaches.

Are you sure you weren't just looking at the wrong answer key?
(I'm asking that because you thought the answer to Q1 was C).

MAIN POINT:
Rawls' theory of justice went against utilitarianism and instead proposed a system in which fair procedures, involving a veil of ignorance, yielded just outcomes.

PURPOSE:
To present the ideas of an influential thinker

P1: Describing Utilitarianism and Rawls' objection to it

P2: Identifying the principle of justice Rawls favored instead

P3: Elaborating on that principle

P4: Applying that principle to the formation of society

P5: Implications of applying that principle to society

Thank you much! I definitely missed a few key things mainly because I think I still struggle with how broad to summarize arguments and often am to narrow in my assessment of each paragraph. This is a great example of how to make it simple!
