Out of scope/irrelevant answer choises

by daijob Wed Jun 03, 2015 11:03 am

Hi,

I read the books, and I just wanted to double check whether my understanding is correct...
So out of scope or irrelevant answers are wrong because they are not related to the argument (argument core) and do not address the premise or conclusion, correct?
And if we want to make those out of scope answers related to what is talked in the argument, in premise or conclusion, we have to make an *assumption* that they are related-and since we make additional assumption, they are no good and wrong answers, is this correct??

(btw, is this the same for RC out of scope answer choices?)

Hey Dai,

This may sound glib, but irrelevant answers are wrong because they're irrelevant. You're overthinking it (and thus incorrect) if you take it further than that. Something irrelevant is wrong by definition, when you're trying to make a point.
