Logic Games : Linear Setup Practice Drill (Not a PT Q)

by nazu.s.shaikh Mon May 03, 2010 9:54 pm

I hope this is allowed in this forum. I wasn't sure where else to put it. Although this is not a prep test question. In one of the workbooks I have for Logic Games, there is a practice question whose wording ended up me getting the question wrong.

The question goes like this: Diagram a setup for the following and include a representation of all sequences, blocks, not blocks and not laws.

1. Six swimmers -- H, J, K,L,N and P are assigned to six swimming lanes numbered 1 through 6. Exactly one swimmer is assigned to each lane. The lane assignments conform to the following conditions:

Swimmer K is assigned a lower-numbered lane than is swimmer J.
Swimmer P is assigned a lower- numbered lane than swimmer K.

My interpretation of this question was J> K > P because when it said a lower numbered lane I assumed J has to be 6 and K & P must be in 1-5 as those numbers are lower than 6 and 6 is the highest.

However in the answer book it says

P> K > J

How is that correct? I don't understand.

Again apologies if this is not allowed.

Hmmm. I think I understand the problem.

Let me see if I get this right?

we need to order 6 characters 1 through 6.

They are: H J K L N P

_ _ _ _ _ _
1 2 3 4 5 6

Lower numbered to the left
Higher numbered to the right

The book has it right

P -- K -- J

the first constraint establishes K -- J
the second constraint establishes P -- K

Sometimes this stuff can be a little tricky. When I read through your statements your solution does not match your reasoning. Your reasoning is accurate, but the solution you draw from it should read just like the book has it :)
