CH. 02/Practice Game 2: PT19, S1, G1

For Question 6, the book says Answer (D) is correct (Solutions, p. 97), which means that the set of factories able to be inspected on the first day is [F, G, H]. However, ordering the inspection with Factory J being inspected on the first day -- giving us J, Q, R, G, H, F -- satisfies all the conditions as well. Which means the answer should be (E) with the set of factories expanded to [F, G, H, J] so as to include Factory J.

It is possible I've misunderstood/misread some condition, but I simply refuse to spend anymore time on this, the first question I've gotten wrong in the entire book, without someone explaining where/how it is exactly I've gone off the rails.

Which of the following is a complete list of bands, any of which could perform third?

(A) M,N,O
(B) M,N,O,P,Q
(C) M,N,P
(D) M,N,Q
(E) M,N,O,P

Answers B and D are crossed out. Where did Q come from as an option? Throughout the example the bands were M,N,O,P,R,S,T. Am I missing something?

Hey Meredith,

We know that Q cannot go third since Q is not an element in the game. Q is a depiction of our well-honed powers of deduction mentioned in the preceding paragraph that allow us to eliminate several answer choices.

I have a problem with the same question that was asked last in this forum. I own the 5th edition.

M cannot go 3rd at all in this game, as there are T, O, and P that all have to come before it, thus making the 4th slot the earliest possible. However, all answer choices include M.

Am I missing something?

I'd appreciate a reply.
