Less than half of registered voters under the age of 25 vote in midterm elections, and more than half of registered voters are 25 or older.

We can infer that...

A) People under the age of 25 who vote in midterm elections represent less than one quarter of all registered voters.

B) Votes cast by voters under the age of 25 represent less than half of the total votes cast in midterm elections.

Can someone break this down? The correct answer is A. Thanks.

Hey Ptraye,

Just try numbers.

Let's call registered voters 100.

The second half of this prompt tells us that more than half of registered voters are 25 or older. So it could be 51 people.

That would leave 49 registered voters under 25. We know that less than half of them vote, so the most that could vote is 24.

(A) Yep, 24 is less than one quarter of our original 100.
(B) Nope, because if none of the older registered voters actually voted, the young people would be the ONLY people who voted (we don't know anything about the older people and how many of them vote.)

Hope that helps!
