*would have done, from gmatprep

from gmatprep.

As its sales of computer products have surpassed
those of measuring instruments, the company has
become increasingly willing to compete for the mass
market sales// they would in the past have conceded
to rivals.//
(A) they would in the past have conceded to rivals
(B) they would have conceded previously to their
rivals
(C) that in the past would have been conceded
previously to rivals
(D) it previously would have conceded to rivals in
the past
(E) it would in the past have conceded to rivals

I see "would have done " used in the conditional sentence. I do not see and do not understand the use of "would have done " when this verb form stands alone. Pls, explain the meaning of "would have done" in the above sentence and in general

"would have done" shows a rather certain action in the past (in above sentence) or an unreal in the past (in the conditional sentence). Is that right?

As far as I know, this is not a GMATPrep problem"”it's an OG problem. OG is a banned source on this forum.

So...

* If you have actually seen this problem on GMATPrep with your own eyes, then post a screenshot of the problem, from the GMATPrep software.

* If not, then we'll delete the thread in the next few days.

By the way, thanghnvn, you've had previous posts that have misrepresented OG problems as "GMATPrep problems". We understand that mistakes are sometimes made, but, if that pattern continues, we may have to restrict your posting on this forum.
GMAC is VERY concerned with the copyright status of OG problems. We can't let them stay on a free public forum.

Thanks.
