whose feedback counts more?

by Guest Thu Sep 18, 2008 1:29 pm

Does the feedback of ex-admissions officers (who are not MBAs) count more than the feedback from alumni who have no prior adcom experience, with regards to essays? Given that admissions officers see a lot more applications, I tend to think they have a broader perspective and their feedback should count for more, but am not sure.

Alex/Jeremy, I would appreciate your thoughts on this.

Adcoms are more experienced, but they won't be particularly candid about what they really think. Alumni are less experienced with seeing applications, but will likely be more candid about what think. That's the catch-22.

whose opinion counts more?

Thanks Alex.....that's an insightful response as always. What about the situation in which both are equally candid, but the officer served on the committee in school A, the alumnus is from school B, and the application pertains to school B?

Unless if you slept with the adcom or the adcom is a family member, you're not going to get a candid answer from them.

Haha, however the intent was to treat the "candid" part in the question stem as evidence, not an assumption!
