Went from a 720-770 on the practice to 640 on the real test

I am hoping some forum expert can help me here ..
My 1st gmat attempt - 680 ( v47 and q36) ... really no studying here .. loads of work came up and did not do any mocks etc..
I did not even know the know the rules well and i later learnt i was penalised heavily for not finishing both sections .
In any case my second attempt was more prepared .. I did all the Mgmat , gmat prep and gmat club tests
Scored typically mgmat scores went up from 680 to 740 till the last test.
Gmat prep scores 720, 740 , 760 ( retake ) .
REAL GMAT - 640 ( Q50 V26 ) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not sure what to make of things .. the verbal seemed to get hard and i thought i was just nailing the questions .. got the long RCs like i used to when my scores went post 40 in verbal .
I know the system of the person next to me hung . and i know this is being very cynical but could there have been some system error here . I have always scored 40 or more in the last 5 tests i took .

I know GMAC will not even entertain my request to look into this .. so i need to retake ..
Now i have exhausted all the prep material and all the practice tests.
can someone , pref stacey / ron please help me with a decent retake strategy. ?

Thanks

Same thing happened to me, I scored 680-710 in my prep tests and it in the real test it turned out to to be 610, I am totally lost as well, don't know what to do next !!!I have scheduled a retake but i have exhausted all the materials, I was so confident I would get not less than 660 :-(
