Weak in SC Verbal

by sayan.magic Tue Jun 19, 2012 3:48 pm

Hi.

My SC section in verbal is weak. After a month of struggle I have improved very little. I know all the rules and I am practicing a lot of SC questions but still not able to get a proper hold.

For an example - I am only able to make 5-6 correct in SC section in MGMAT.

I am good in CR. And okey in RC.
I am also good in all Quants section.

I have my test schedules in another 2 weeks. And I understand that from here I will not be able to improve much drastically in SC.

I want to get 700 in the test.
1. Please let me know if it is possible to score low in SC but still get a higher score in the overall Verbal section with CR and RC?
2.What should be my verbal score ,if my quant score is 45 to get a 700? And how can it be managed with CR and RC?

Thanks and Regards,
Sayan

It's tough to hit 700 if SC is a significant weakness.

Also, in order to hit 700, if quant is 45, verbal would have to be in the low 40s, which is the 90th percentile or higher. That is a significantly higher score than 45 on the quant (which is the 71st percentile).

I don't know what your practice test scores are, but I'm guessing your verbal score is currently lower than your quant score in terms of the percentile ranking. If so, it is extremely unlikely that you will hit a 700 in two weeks. Also, if so, that means you'll likely need to raise both quant and verbal to hit 700, because it's unlikely that you'll take the area that is your bigger weakness and actually get so much better that it surpasses your area of strength - not without a lot of time and work, at least.

In short, if your current scoring level is not at or very close to 700 right now (on practice tests taken under 100% official conditions), then you are facing a choice: postpone your test date and work more to try to get to 700, or keep your test date and lower your goal score.

I know that's probably not what you were hoping to hear, but I think it's better to start making an informed decision.

If you'd like to share your practice test statistics with us, please do so. Please also analyze your most recent MGMAT CAT(s) using this article:
