Waitlist advice needed- NYU Stern

by jansenkp Mon Jan 30, 2012 5:36 pm

Hello,

I would greatly appreciate some advice as to whether I should retake the Gmat? My stats are below.

Gmat:700 (Q 47-76% V-39-87% AWA: 4.0)
GPA:3.53- School-70th-100th place on the undergrad rankings
4 years - Finance/Risk experience at a top IB
Application: Strong- Good essays/video/strong resume
Recommendations: two from alumni in my current role, including my manager.

I am up for promotion and should know the result in a few weeks. Therefore, if I am promoted I am going to use that as a reason to update the adcom. However, I'm not sure if a promotion (to a post-MBA role) and some other follow up answers to my application is enough to strengthen it in order to get off the waitlist.

Also, given my practice test performance, I feel confident I can bump the GMAT score 10-20 points. I am not sure if that will be enough though. Thanks!

Hi! I strongly agree that telling the AdCom about your promotion would be something smart to submit. As for your GMAT, your score is within the range of NYU. I am not sure that boosting it another 10-20 points will make much of a difference. Another thing to possibly submit to the AdCom would be a recommendation from an alumni of NYU.

Best of luck,
