Value of Quant Score

by Joe Thu Nov 15, 2007 3:09 pm

Is their any truth that admissions panels pay closer attention to a candiates Quant score versus their Verbal? I was told this is true because your essays can show how well you can communicate your ideas and also because Business schools are more Quant orientated?

Depends on the candidate.

If you have a lib arts background, they will pay closer attention to your quant.

If you're an engineer (or have a highly analytical academic background), they'll pay more attention to your verbal.

Quant is a rough proxy for your analytical sklls, whereas your verbal is a rough proxy for your critical thinking skills.

Regardless of who you are though, a balanced score is always better than an unbalanced one. For top schools, shoot for the 80%/80% split.
