URGENT: change in MGMAT cat algorithms?

by vishalchopra Mon Jun 02, 2008 2:57 am

hi ,

I just gave 4/6 of manhattan gmat cat and was shocked to see my verbal score of 31 . My previous scores in Manhattan cats have been ~38-39 all along. Has there been a change in verbal algorithm ?. At some places , I even saw that I got a question of lower difficulty (600-700) after getting a question of higher difficulty correct(700-800). I am very worried about this score and would like to know if this is because of some recent changes in the test algo.If yes then please have it fixed .

Thanks and Regards ,

Vishal

No changes have been made to the algorithm recently. You'll have to dig a little deeper into your performance to figure out what went wrong. Did you have any timing issues on this one? How was your performance toward the end of the section?

Also, it is not necessarily the case that you will always get a higher-rated question when you get a question right. The test also has to manage question types and content areas. Your 700-800 question might've been only a 700 or 710 level question and your 600-700 question might've been a 680 or 690. If the algorithm needed to give you, say, an SC question that tested parallelism next, that may have been the closest difficulty rating to match the question type and content-area requirements.
