Urgent advise needed regarding retaking GMAT

by ankit_gupta01 Tue Jul 28, 2009 1:43 pm

Hi,

I took the GMAT in October 2008 and scored a 730..... however, I really wanted to get 750 + to boost my application. I am due to take the test in two days (July 30, 2009). I am practising from MGMAT and taking some tests and have also worked on my weak areas. However, I am unable to see consistency in my scores. I got a 710 and 690 on the Practice tests 1 and 2 from MGMAT.

The question is would it hurt my application if my score goes below the previous one. I know B-schools say that they only consider the highest score but do they really mean it. Should I venture at the test or just not take it and be happy with what I have.

Please advise ASAP>

Thanks a lot,
Ankit

I realized I did not include my basic profile info:

BS in Biotechnology - Rutgers University (GPA: 3.7/4.0) - graduated May 2005
Passed CFA Levels I and II, awaiting result for Level III.
GMAT: 730 (Q49 and V 40)
I will have 5 years of full time work experience ( about 2 years as Implementation Consultant for an EHR company), and Operations/Finance Manager for 3 years with healthcare company.

I am targeting top 10 schools: HBS, Berkeley, Stanford, Columbia, Wharton, LBS, Indian School of Business.

Do I need to retake the GMAT?

I don't think a higher GMAT score is going to make a significant difference in your candidacy. You have already done well on the test (you scored above the average GMAT score for your target schools)...and you successfully passed levels 1 and 2 of the CFA. It might be better to focus on writing your essays and developing your story for your application at this point.

Best of luck...and congrats on the 730!
