Alex, I understand that b-schools look for candidates with a diverse background, but how important are unique career goals? Can they make a difference to one's chances for admission? Thanks!

On its own, no.
Your career goals have to be clear, specific and sincere. It's not about how creative you can get with your goals. If your goals happen to be unique, that's fine, but it'll be moot if the adcom senses it's contrived.
