Re: Profil Evaluation, EU candiate, MBA Top Schools

Hi thmsy,

Thanks for sharing this information on your background. While you seem to have some great academic and work credentials, I have to think that 620 is going to put the schools your mention into the reach category. Yes it is possible to break into HBS with a 660 like your friend mentioned, but a 620 is about 10 percentage points below a 660, according to the GMAT site. If it is imperative that you apply this year and don't expect your score to rise, you may want to broaden your list of target schools. Or if not, perhaps you can wait a year and dedicate several months to the GMAT to help increase your score.

Best of luck,

Thanks much for your thoughts on my profile. Just a quick update: My GMAT is now at 650. I would also be able to take one or two open enrollment quant courses at NYU to even out my Q43.

Any further comments or thoughts are much appreciated.

Thanks!

PS: GMAT again is really not an option. While I agree that it would strengthen my candidacy, I consider it just a waste of my time. Instead I’d be happy to take quant classes in which I actual learn something. It’s not that I don’t like quant, not at all. I actually have good/excellent grades in the quant classes I took (which are just a few). But the GMAT is just pointless. No intrinsic motivation for that at all.

Hi again,

Glad to hear you were able to raise your score to 650. While I can certainly empathize with your dismay over the importance the test is given, it's my opinion that these top-tier schools are still in "reach" range for you. Additional quant work could be helpful but I think Verbal is a concern as well, and it's difficult to directly address that through extra coursework. If you do go forward with these applications, then you may want to write a short optional essay explaining why your other strengths show you will still be a successful MBA student at their school.

Best of luck!
